Two men have appeared in court charged in connection with a robbery following which a woman was knocked down and killed in Dublin last week.

Edward Andrews, with an address at Belarmine Hall in Stepaside in Dublin, and Terry Meegan, from Ridge Hall in Ballybrack, were remanded in custody to appear again in court next week.

Jacqueline McGovern, 54, was out walking in Killiney when she was hit by a getaway car and later died in hospital.

A third man has been charged and is due to appear in court tomorrow morning.

Edward Andrews was brought before Dun Laoghaire District Court this morning.

He was charged with the robbery of over €800 from the Centra shop at Barnhill Road in Dalkey last Tuesday week.

Detective Garda Robert Clifford submitted evidence of arrest, charge and caution by certificate, which was handed in at the court.

Mr Andrews applied for bail but gardaí objected on the grounds of the seriousness of the charge and the possibility that more serious charges will be preferred.

Judge Grainne Malone refused bail and remanded the 25-year-old in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court next week.

Mr Andrews was granted free legal aid after his solicitor Ronnie Lynam handed in a statement of means.

Terry Meegan was brought before the Dublin District Court this afternoon also charged with robbing the Centra last Tuesday week.

Detective Garda Deirdre Finn said Mr Meegan made no reply when charged this afternoon.

The 27-year-old made no application for bail and was granted free legal aid before being remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next week.
