The Government has approved the appointment of seven new judges to the Court of Appeal.
Six are to be appointed immediately and the seventh will be appointed when Mr Justice Michael Peart retires at the end of this month.
The six are current high court judges, Seamus Noonan, Robert Haughton, Úna Ní Raifeartaigh, and Mary Faherty, as well as senior counsel Ann Power and Brian Murray.
Maurice Collins SC will be appointed on 26 October on Mr Justice Peart's retirement.
The Chief Justice Mr Justice Frank Clarke had called last week for the appointments to be made immediately amid concern that cases could be delayed.
Legislation was introduced earlier this year to allow for the extra judges.
