Tipperary farmer Patrick Quirke, who was jailed for life earlier this month after he was found guilty of the murder of Bobby Ryan, is to appeal his conviction.

The 52-year-old from Breanshamore in Co Tipperary was convicted after a 15-week trial at the Central Criminal Court - the longest murder trial in recent history.

The appeal may not be heard until next year.

It is not yet known the grounds upon which he will appeal.
