The jury in the trial of two teenage boys accused of the murder of 14-year-old Anastasia Kriégel has been told that videos of interviews with the second accused boy cannot be used by the prosecution against his co-accused.

Mr Justice Paul McDermott told the jurors he wanted to emphasise to them that the videos were being put forward by the prosecution as proof against Boy B.

He said anything Boy B said about Boy A was not evidence against that boy.

Both boys have pleaded not guilty to the murder of the schoolgirl in a derelict house in Lucan on 14 May 2018. Boy A has also pleaded not guilty to violently sexually assaulting her.

The jury has been watching the first interview given by Boy B to gardaí on 24 May 2018 after he was arrested on suspicion of Ana Kriégel's murder.

The boy told gardaí that he called for Ana at 4.55pm on 14 May 2018. He said once he told her that Boy A wanted to see her, she got her clothes, shoes and phone and came out the door with him.

He said while they were walking Ana started talking about her suspensions from school and ex-boyfriends.

He told gardaí she showed him a picture of her tied up to a chair and gave him the phone for him to see.

He said she told him one of her ex-boyfriends did it. He said when they first met Boy A, the boy seemed surprised to see him.

He said once they met Boy A, he was behind them "tagging along" to give them privacy.

He said that at a certain point he left. He pointed out the place where he left to gardaí.

He said he went back to the changing rooms in the park, had a drink and sat down for four to five minutes.

He said when he was walking back he met Ana again. He said he went up to her to say hi but she did not say anything and he walked a bit faster in front of her to give her space.

He said when he looked back she was gone.  After that he told gardaí he went home and started doing his homework and then watched a series on Netflix.  He said it was around 10pm when police came to the house and informed them that Ana was missing. He then went to sleep.

Gardaí asked Boy B if he knew there were CCTV cameras in St Catherine's Park and where they were. The boy pointed out a number of locations.

Gardaí told him there were a lot more cameras than that, although some were not working. They asked the boy if he was satisfied he had told them the truth. The boy said he was, but then said he was trying to remember if he had forgotten anything.

Gardaí told him they would be playing the CCTV footage they had and told him it was his opportunity to tell the truth.

When his statement was read back to him, the boy told them he thought one or two parts might be wrong.

He said that when he had seen Ana while he was on the way back, he did not know if it was actually her.

He said she was wearing all black with white markings on her shoulder so he suspected it was her.

He also said he might have gone further with Boy A and Ana than he had originally said and pointed out a new point on the map for gardaí.
