A Christian Brother has been jailed for two years for indecently assaulting two children in the 1980s.
John Gibson, 72, denied the charges, but was found guilty of committing the offences at a Christian Brothers' school in Co Wexford in 1983 and 1985.
In the summer of 1983, he recruited a 12-year-old girl to do some painting at the school, but indecently assaulted her.
Two years later, he did the same to a 12-year-old boy that he had asked to grease the goalposts on the playing fields.
Gibson, who has an address in Dún Laoghaire in Co Dublin, denied three charges of indecent assault.
However, following a trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court he was found guilty of all counts by a jury.
Both victims spoke of the environment in 1980s Ireland where the Catholic Church was "untouchable" and "clerics and religious were to be revered".
The female victim said the abuse was a "life sentence", which had cost her every loving relationship in her life.
The male victim said he began binge-drinking at age 14, lost interest in sport and eventually dropped out of school.
Judge Elma Sheahan said Gibson's behaviour had "profound and long-lasting consequences" on the victims, he abused his position of authority and carried out the attacks in a premeditated way.
She also said he has not acknowledged his wrongdoing or the jury verdict and has shown no remorse. She sentenced him to two years in prison.
The State had made an application to stop the media naming Gibson however, Judge Elma Sheahan ruled today that there were no compelling arguments to restrict reporting in the case.
