A 20-year-old man has pleaded guilty to assaulting a ten-week-old girl.

The man cannot be identified due to reporting restrictions.

He pleaded guilty to intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to the baby at an address in Co Louth on 13 March 2017.

The offence is contrary to section 4 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

The man was 18 at the time of the offence.

The case was listed for trial at Dundalk Circuit Court but Judge Patrick Quinn was told the man was entering a guilty plea.

The court heard that a number of reports would need to be prepared on the accused in advance of sentencing and the case was adjourned.

He was remanded on bail on the same terms and conditions until the next sitting of the court.
