A bus driver has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving and drink driving on the M7 in Co Kildare earlier this month.

Michael Connolly of Rossport, Ballina, Co Mayo, appeared before Naas District Court this morning.

Judge Desmond Zaidan said that the State will be alleging that there was a report of a bus swerving on the M7 on 2 October.

It is alleged gardaí went to the scene with flashing lights and brought the bus to a stop on the hard shoulder.

On speaking to the driver, they formed the opinion that he was intoxicated.

The driver was arrested.

It is alleged that he had 84mg of alcohol in his system. The limit for a bus driver is 9mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

Judge Zaidan said it was a "serious allegation".

The court was told the file has gone to the Director of Public Prosecutions for directions.

The case has been adjourned until 28 November. There were no objections to bail.
