A man who helped a criminal organisation that carried out one of the Hutch-Kinahan feud murders in Dublin in 2016 has been jailed for two years and nine months at the Special Criminal Court.

Martin Aylmer of Casino Park, Marino, in Dublin bought phones that were used during the murder of Michael Barr at the Sunset House, Summerhill Parade, in Dublin on 25 April 2016.

It is believed to be the first time a person has been convicted for this offence under the organised crime legislation introduced in 2006.

The court heard gardaí recovered a mobile phone beside the partially burned out getaway car following the murder.

CCTV footage later recovered showed Aylmer buying the phone in Dublin's Ilac Shopping Centre two days before Mr Barr was shot dead.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt said there was not enough evidence to show that the 31-year-old knew the phones were to be used in the fatal gun attack and warned the sentence was not to be seen as a precedent.

He was sentenced to three years, nine months with one year suspended.

The officer leading the investigation Chief Supt Sean Ward said afterwards the sentence was significant as criminal gangs cannot operate without those who offer them logistical support.

He also said the investigation remained live and a number of other people are being sought by gardaí.
