Dublin Airport has said there has been an increase in the number of people not showing up for flights following the recent changes to travel requirements.

The airport has also revised downwards the number of people it expects to see coming through over the festive period.

It now says around 850,000 people are expected to travel through Dublin Airport between Friday 17 December 2021 and Tuesday 4 January 2022.

Before the latest travel restrictions were introduced, it had projected 1.25m would travel through the airport for the whole month of December.

The DAA confirmed that while the estimate for this week and next is down on initial projections, it is also down more than 40% on pre-pandemic levels, with 1.5 million people travelling through Dublin Airport over Christmas 2019.

It is up on last year's figure for the same period of 235,000, when a temporary travel ban on passengers arriving from Britain came into effect on 21 December through to 6 January 2021.

Today is expected to be the airport's busiest day of the festive period, with 52,000 people expected through the airport.

This Thursday, 23 December, is expected to be its second busiest.

All people arriving into the country need to have a negative antigen or PCR test in line with their vaccination or recovery status.
