The family of a person who contracted Covid-19 in a hospital, and subsequently died, is suing the State.

The Department of Health has confirmed to Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín that the State Claims Agency is involved.

It is currently unclear if the person who died was an employee of the hospital or a patient.

However, the SCA has clarified that it is the only such case it has received to date.

The agency has a statutory remit to manage claims on behalf of certain State authorities, including the HSE.
