Gardaí working in the mandatory hotel quarantine system are to receive Covid-19 vaccinations.

The Department of Justice has said "limited cohorts" of members of An Garda Síochána who are identified by the Commissioner as being at high risk of exposure to Covid-19 variants of concern will be given the vaccine.

This includes gardaí working in the Mandatory Hotel Quarantine System.

Members of An Garda Síochána required to travel to Greece as part of the joint mission to relocate refugees from the Moira camp will also be vaccinated.

This follows concerns raised by the Children's Rights Alliance and others about the relocation programme after gardaí were not allowed to travel due to health and safety considerations.

In addition, approximately 130 frontline staff at the Border Management Unit of the Department of Justice, working at ports of entry on the Mandatory Quarantine System will also be vaccinated.
