The Department of Health has been notified of 54 further deaths of people with Covid-19 and an additional 1,006 cases.

Of the deaths notified today, 45 occurred in February, five in January and four are still under investigation.

The median age of those who died was 86 and the age range was 48-104 years.

The total number of Covid-19 related deaths here is 3,794.

The number of people in intensive care is down nine to 173.

Figures earlier today showed the number of patients with Covid-19 in hospital increased slightly to 1,032, compared with 1,012 last night.

Of the coronavirus cases notified today, 476 are men and 524 are women, with 65% of those under the age of 45.

The median age is 35 years old.

Dublin accounts for 516 of the cases. There were 63 in Cork, 46 in Galway, 43 in Meath, 36 in Louth and the remaining 302 cases are spread across all other counties.

Up to Sunday, 153,654 first doses of Covid-19 vaccines were given.

Today's figures also show that 86,833 second doses have been administered, an increase of 2,489 on the previous day.

St James's Hospital in Dublin was caring for 95 patients with Covid-19, the largest number of any hospital in the country.

Elsewhere in the capital, the Mater Hospital had 91 patients, while Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown had 72.

In Northern Ireland, four further deaths of people with Covid-19 were reported today, taking the official death toll there to 1,957. Also, 336 new cases were confirmed from tests on 2,058 individuals.

There are 544 confirmed coronavirus patients in hospital, with 61 in ICU, 57 of whom are on ventilators.

The average seven-day infection rate per 100,000 for Northern Ireland is 138.0, which is the lowest since 1 December. The highest rate remains Mid Ulster on 244.0 while the lowest is Fermanagh and Omagh on 71.9.
