A crèche in Dublin, which has become the first childcare facility to reported a case of Covid-19, has said all protocols from the Health Service Executive and Tusla had been followed.

Parents of children who attend the crèche on Dublin's northside received notification last Thursday that a member of staff had tested positive for Covid-19.

They were told the staff member was present in the crèche for one day last week and was asymptomatic at the time but tested positive several days later.

Parents of children who had been in contact with the worker have been phoned and appropriate testing has been arranged.

The small number of staff who had been in direct contact with the worker are being tested and would not be in work while awaiting results.

Minister for Children Roderic O'Gorman said all necessary actions are being taken in relation to the crèche worker.

Speaking in the Dáil last night, Minister O'Gorman said both the HSE and Tusla's Early Years Inspectorate were involved and their concern was for the person impacted and also to prevent any spread of the virus.

He said he wanted to assure people that all appropriate actions had been taken.

The Department of Health said it had not been notified of any outbreak - which would involve two or more cases in any childcare setting.

A spokesperson said contact tracing and testing would be carried out in relation to close contact of any confirmed case.
