The Government has advised those with underlying health conditions to self-isolate where they feel it is necessary.

It has resulted in the hashtag on social media #selfisolationhelp.

The hashtag aims top help those who are in self isolation by running errands and dropping groceries and dog walking.

Last night, Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health Dr Tony Holohan welcomed the public solidarity in this regard.

The idea came from Samantha Kelly (@Tweetinggoddess) when she discovered that her friend Ronan (@Tecdr) was in self isolation.

The hashtag has now extended beyond Ireland to Scotland and Canada.

Ronan, who has an underlying health problem, has been indoors for most of the week.
