A man's body has been recovered after a boat capsized off the coast of Co Galway.

The alarm was raised at around 2.50am this morning, with reports that three men were in the water at Ceann Mhása.

Two of the men managed to make it ashore.

The body of the third man was later recovered.

One of the men who swam ashore is reported to be the son of a local woman from Carna who lives with her family in Norway.

It is understood the three men in their 30s were visiting the area from Norway. They were returning from Roundstone last night when their boat capsized.

Irish Coast Guard rescue helicopters R115 and R117 from Shannon and Waterford were tasked to the scene, along with the Clifden and Aran Islands lifeboat and Costelloe Bay and Cleggan coast guard units.
