A litter of puppies found off the N59 in Co Galway yesterday have been reunited with their mother.

Dog rescue charity Madra, which is based in Camas in Co Galway, confirmed that the mother had been reunited with her puppies following an "amazing response" to the charity's appeal.

Thirteen newborn puppies had been found in an isolated area off the N59 between Bushypark and Woodstock.

Five puppies died before they were reunited with their mother.

It is believed that the puppies were born last Thursday.

In a post on X, Madra said that the mother dog had "taken fright, gotten lost and given birth alone".

"Her owners are not on social media, so they had no idea the pups had been found.

"The babies are now safely back where they belong, snuggled up and nursing with their mum."

The charity added that the puppies will be available for adoption when they are old enough and are now in the care of Madra.
