An 82-year-old man has pleaded guilty to careless driving causing the death of a woman in Oranmore, Co Galway, two years ago.
Patrick Martin, with an address at Sycamore Cove, Maree in Oranmore, admitted driving without due care and attention at Galway Circuit Court.
Sheila Creedon died following the incident at Main Street, Oranmore, on 6 January 2023.
Ms Creedon, who was originally from Cork, lived in Oranmore.
Martin also admitted other offences, including leaving the scene and failing to report the matter to gardaí.
The case had been listed for trial in November, but the trial date has now been vacated.
Prosecuting barrister, Geri Silke, said the State was seeking an early sentencing date.
She told the court that Ms Creedon's family have found the delay "very difficult" and are anxious that all aspects of sentencing are dealt with on the same day.
Judge Brian O'Callaghan said the case will get priority in the sentencing list.
Defence barrister, Conall MacCarthy, said that he had been instructed to formally put on record his client’s remorse and his desire to express sympathy to the family and friends of Ms Creedon.
The court heard Martin is not driving and Mr MacCarthy asked that the court impose an immediate disqualification order on his client, but put a stay on the length of the disqualification until the case is finalised.
Judge O'Callaghan adjourned the case to July and granted the State liberty to re-enter the matter should any issues arise.
