Three people have been rescued following an incident at Killary Harbour, Co. Galway.

It happened this afternoon when their small craft got into difficulty.

The Irish Coastguard was alerted to the incident and was joined by Cleggan Coast Guard unit, Clifden RNLI and Sligo based Coast Guard helicopter R118.

Three people were winched to safety by R118.

They were taken to hospital in Castlebar.

A fourth person made their own way back to shore where they were transferred into the care of the National Ambulance Service.
