Gardaí in Galway have confirmed that they are carrying out inquiries into two fatalities linked to the clean-up effort after Storm Éowyn.
Former Galway hurler Michael Coleman died last Friday, following an incident near his home in Ballyglunin. His funeral will take place tomorrow.
Gardaí are also preparing a file for the local coroner in relation to the death of a man in his 70s, in the Clarinbridge area, on Monday 3 February.
As work continues to deal with the aftermath of the storm, local authorities in the west have reiterated an appeal to the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant to the threat posed by fallen power lines, loose branches and other debris.
Galway City and County Councils are continuing to assess, remove and repair impacted infrastructure, with the task likely to take several more weeks to complete.
Initial estimates have put the cost of the damage to public amenities in Galway city alone at between €10 million and €15 million.
