Proceedings against a former TD, accused of drug driving, have been adjourned to a future sitting of Tuam District Court in Co Galway.

Colm Keaveney faces two charges in relation to offences alleged to have taken place on 12 June 2023; One of driving with cocaine in his system and another of driving without insurance.

He is also facing a third charge of allegedly driving without insurance on Vicar Street in Tuam in July 2023.

The case has been put back on multiple occasions, pending evidence from a witness from the Medical Bureau of Road Safety. (MBRS)

When it came before today's sitting of the court, the matter was further adjourned for mention in late February.

Mr Keaveney’s solicitor outlined at an earlier hearing that he wanted to canvass a number of issues with the MBRS, in relation to the manner in which a blood sample taken from his client was tested.

Gearóid Geraghty’s concerns centre around the fact that testing that revealed the presence of cocaine was not carried out on a sealed blood sample.

Mr Keaveney, who no longer holds elected office, has been remanded on continuing bail.
