A 20-year-old man has pleaded guilty to endangering the lives of two people by driving a car at them, during a feud related disturbance in Galway in 2023.
Martin McDonagh, of Sceilig Ard, Headford Road, Galway, confirmed guilty pleas to three charges at Galway Circuit Court, arising from an incident at the Galway Shopping Centre, on 10 September 2023.
He admitted intentionally or recklessly driving a car at speed and striking Katie Sweeney, which created a substantial risk of death or serious harm.
He entered a guilty plea to a similar charge in relation to Andrew Sweeney and has also pleaded guilty to violent disorder at the shopping centre on the same date.
Judge Brian O'Callaghan remanded McDonagh on bail until 28 October.
Six other people have verbally confirmed signed guilty pleas to offences arising from violent public order incidents in Galway on10 September 2023.
John McDonagh, 25, with an address at Bay 5 Tuam Halting Site, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at the Galway Shopping Centre, Headford Road, Galway; Eleisha Browne, 30, with an address at Cooke's Terrace, Bohermore, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at St Finbar's Terrace, Bohermore; 24-year-old Derek Ward with an address at Camillaun Park, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at a laneway between the Galway Shopping Centre and Bohermore; Jason Ward, 19, with an address at Radharc na Gréine, Monivea Road, Mervue, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Galway Shopping Centre, violent disorder at Circle K, College Road and the production of an axe during the course of a dispute at Galway Shopping Centre;
Lee Ward , 20, with an address at Coole Park, Bohermore, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Circle K, College Road, violent disorder at Galway Shopping Centre and criminal damage to a car at Galway Shopping Centre; PJ Ward, 22, with an address at Ocean Wave, Salthill, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Galway Shopping Centre.
All have been remanded on continuing bail until the end of October, when they are due back in court.
