A missing persons appeal for a Lithuanian man who was reported missing six years ago has been closed after skeletal remains were found on farmland in Strokestown, Co Roscommon.
Tomas Martinkus, 29, was reported missing on 19 December 2018 and a number of searches took place in the local area around Strokestown where the Lithuanian national he had been living and working.
CCTV was also examined at the time of his disappearance.
Gardaí confirmed that the missing person appeal had now been stood down following the discovery of remains.
It is understood gardaí were alerted to the discovery of remains on local farmland in early December and the scene was technically examined.
Work on identifying the remains had been ongoing since then and the identity of Mr Martinkus was established.
It is understood that foul play is not suspected.
