A man aged in his 60s has died after being hit by a car in Co Mayo yesterday evening.
The incident happened at around 6.30pm at Main Street in Ballinrobe.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
His body was taken to Mayo General Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.
The road remains closed this morning as a technicial examination of the scene takes place.
Local diversions are in place.
A man aged in his 30s was arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released without charge.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6pm and 7pm are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
