A 16-year-old boy charged with the attempted murder of a priest in Galway has been remanded in custody.
The teenager - who cannot be named because of his age - appeared via video link at Galway District Court this morning. He is being held at Oberstown Detention Centre.
He is charged with the attempted murder of Fr Paul Murphy, at Renmore army barracks in Galway on 15 August.
The boy is also charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Fr Murphy, on the same date.
Judge Adrian Harris was told that work on completing the book of evidence in the case was ongoing, and the State sought more time for this task.
He remanded the boy in custody until next week, when the matter will be back before the courts.
Defence solicitor Jack Donohue asked that the judge direct a psychological report be carried out on his client. He said it was anticipated that this would be needed when the case came to trial and that it would be of assistance to commence such a review.
Judge Harris acceded to the request before adjourning proceedings until next Wednesday.
