The annual commemoration has taken place for three ships belonging to the Spanish Armada which sank at Streedagh Beach in Co Sligo on 21 September 1588.

The sinking resulted in the loss of life of over 1,100 Spaniards.

This is the 14th edition of the commemoration in Streedagh.

1,100 crosses were erected on the beach before the Spanish Naval Band from the OPV Carnota led a 1km walk to the unveiling of a new monument by local artist Martha Quinn.

The monument was unveiled by members of the Spanish Navy in memory of those who died.
