The Ballysodare River catchment in Co Sligo, has reopened for angling on a catch-and-release only basis following the deaths of a large number of wild Atlantic salmon in July.
The Ballysodare River and all waterways in the Ballysodare system closed to all fishing on 17 July after 1,079 salmon were recorded dead.
Inland Fisheries Ireland has been investigating the incident at the watercourse and will "provide information on the causes of these deaths in due course."
The reopening is aimed at conserving the remaining fish population, which are vulnerable following the July mortalities.
Fishing will operate on a catch-and-release basis for salmon of any size, and sea trout over 40cm, for the remainder of the salmon and sea trout season to 30 September.
All lakes on the system have reopened for angling too.
Minister for the Environment Eamon Ryan signed a new conservation by-law regarding the reopening.
