Two more people have been charged in connection with a public order incident at Galway Shopping Centre last weekend.
Martin McDonagh, 19, and 24-year-old John McDonagh were both brought before Galway District Court this morning.
Bail applications on behalf of both accused men were refused by Judge Deirdre Gearty.
Martin McDonagh, with an address at 65 Sceilig Ard, Headford Road, Galway, is charged with engaging in intentional or reckless conduct, creating a substantial risk of death or serious harm, under Section 13 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Persons Act.
Detective Garda Gerry Carroll told the court that it was alleged the accused drove a black Ford Focus car, with the registration 181-G-5146, striking Katie Sweeney at Galway Shopping centre last Sunday evening.
She sustained a broken shoulder, blood clotting and leg injuries, as a result of the alleged offence.
Detective Carroll said he had observed the accused at the scene, initially driving past a patrol car in which he was sitting, before Mr McDonagh drove back into the shopping centre car park in the direction of Katie Sweeney.
After the car struck her, Mr McDonagh is alleged to have driven towards another group, with another person sustaining injuries when hit by the car.
Detective Carroll said in the aftermath of the events on Sunday evening, gardaí had engaged in an extensive search for Mr McDonagh, locally and nationally.
He said it was believed the suspect had left the jurisdiction for a time, before he presented himself at the North West Regional Garda headquarters on Wednesday.
Judge Gearty refused an application for bail based on the seriousness of the charge, the strength of evidence presented and the flight risk posed.
John McDonagh, with an address at Bay 5, Tuam Halting Site, Co. Galway, is charged with producing an article capable of inflicting serious injury, under Section 11 of the 1990 Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.
He faces a second charge of violent disorder under Section 15 of the 1994 Criminal Justice Act.
Detective Garda Ronan Leonard told Judge Gearty that CCTV footage showed Mr McDonagh arriving at Galway Shopping Centre at 6.25pm last Sunday, after which he took a baseball bat from the boot of the car he was travelling in.
Detective Leonard said the accused then marched towards the Bohermore area of the car park, "goading" people and "leading the charge".
He said these actions escalated the incident. The court heard Mr McDonagh can be seen on video footage swinging the baseball bat.
He was described as "one of the main aggressors in this very serious incident".
John McDonagh presented himself to gardaí on two occasions since the incident and his solicitor said he was willing to observe a rigorous curfew, should bail be granted.
But Judge Gearty said given the nature of the charges and the likelihood of reoffending, she was refusing that application.
Both men have been remanded in custody to appear via video link at next Monday's sitting of Galway District Court.
Applications for legal aid on behalf of both the accused were granted.
Six others have been already charged in relation to a series of public order incidents in Galway on Sunday.
All eight men are due back in court in the coming weeks.
This afternoon, three further men, one in his 40s and two aged in their 20s, have been charged in relation to the incident.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
They are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the College Road and Headford Road areas in Galway between 5.45pm and 6.45pm on Sunday evening and witnessed any violent behaviour, to contact them.
Anyone with camera footage, including dash cam recordings, from the area are also urged to provide this material to gardaí.
Anyone with information can contact Galway Garda Station at 091 538 000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
