The pub that featured in Martin McDonagh's 'The Banshees of Inisherin' has been relocated, rebuilt and officially opened at its new base in Kilkerrin, Co Galway.

JJ Devine’s Public House was built on location on the island of Acaill, but was taken apart again as soon as the movie shoot wrapped.

However, a Galway publican salvaged the parts and the original structure was restored to the family-run Mee’s Bar in north Galway. Co-owner Luke Mee describes the work gone into restoring the pub in its new location.

"I'd heard the set was dismantled and the parts were lying in a yard in Achill for months with nobody showing any interest," Mr Mee said.

"All the structural parts were in good condition, so I took them back to the yard at the back of Mee's Bar here in Kilkerrin in Galway and set about returning the iconic pub to its former glory.

"Everything, down to the windowpanes, was meticulously rebuilt with the help of family, friends and neighbours. Hours upon hours went into this project which now stands on the site of our bar in Kilkerrin."

JJ Devine's is a key location in the critically acclaimed ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’. It is where Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell shoot pivotal scenes as Colm and Pádraic and the breakdown of their friendship.

The family hope that the pub will become a popular tourist attraction, where customers can take photos and enjoy live music sessions.

US singer, Taylor Swift, has already admired the "authenticity" of the set in Acaill and expressed an interest in visiting the pub if it was ever rebuilt.

The Mee family sais she is welcome any time and would be given a free pint and a céad míle fáilte.
