Six dogs have been seized in Co Sligo as part of an investigation targeting the suspected of owning, using and breeding restricted breeds of dangerous dogs.

Fourteen premises were searched in the Sligo and Ballymote areas on Friday.

Gardaí say that during the searches a number of animal health and welfare notices were issued by the ISPCA.

The dogs seized included a German Shepard Malamute, four American Staffordshire Terriers and one mixed-breed dog.

They are currently in the care of the ISPCA and are receiving medical treatment.
