Údarás na Gaeltachta has appointed Tomás Ó Síocháin as the new Chief Executive of the organisation.
He succeeds Mícheál Ó hÉanaigh, whose term in office recently concluded.
Mr Ó Síocháin has been Chief Executive of the Western Development Commission for the last four years. He previously worked as a journalist with TG4 and RTÉ.
He will begin his new role in December.
The Chairperson of Údarás na Gaeltachta, Anna Ní Ghallachair, said the appointment was central to the "pivotal role" the agency plays in the development of the Gaeltacht.
