A disused school building in Newbridge, Co Galway, has been converted into a hub to receive Ukrainian refugees.
The communities of Newbridge and Ballygar came together to prepare the building, which closed 11 years ago.
A new kitchen was fitted and heating and electricity systems were reinstalled, and the building was also repainted.
It is hoped that the building will provide temporary accommodation to Ukrainians arriving in the area, as well as a space for people to meet and socialise.
Two Ukrainian families have already arrived in the village after fleeing the conflict in their home country.
Eight properties in Newbridge have been pledged to house more families.
Speaking on Shannonside FM, local organiser Sean Gavin said: "We had above 120 people there from Friday evening, and again on Saturday, and again on Sunday.
"There was a complete overhaul: the whole grounds were power washed, the inside, there was a lot of electrical works to be done, there was plumbing work to be done, there was a new kitchen installed in it, we'll hopefully get broadband in in the coming weeks, and get some computers for them, so that they would have their own identity, and have some place where they could mingle and meet."
