A Covid-19 outbreak at Roscommon University Hospital has led to the implementation of visiting restrictions.

Visitors are not allowed onto St Bridget's Ward, St Teresa's Ward or St Coman's Ward in the hospital.

The visiting restrictions will be reviewed next week.

Hospital management said that exceptions can be arranged in advance with staff on compassionate grounds.

However, family members are urged to contact the nurse manager in such cases.

The Saolta hospital group said that testing and contract tracing of staff and patients has now commenced.

Those with appointments should attend the hospital and follow all guidelines unless advised otherwise by staff.

"The hospital is following the national public health guidance in relation to the management of suspect cases, confirmed cases and close contacts. Covid-19 testing and contact tracing of both staff and patients is being carried out," Saolta said in a statement
