People on Clare Island, in Co Mayo, are having a St Patrick's Day with a difference, as residents get their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

GP Noreen Curtis travelled to the island this morning to administer the jabs.

Vaccines were delivered by Air Corps helicopter yesterday and the immunisation programme got under way at 8.30am today.

Since then, Dr Curtis has been working, under the watchful eye of 'St Patrick', a man also known as her father, retired GP, Dr Paddy Lineen.

Dr Curtis said residents were delighted to have been vaccinated and that there was an incredible sense of relief among the population there.

It is her second day in a row to bring some cheer to one of the islands off the Mayo coast. Yesterday, 16 residents on Inishbiggle were vaccinated.

Doses have also been sent to Inishturk and to Inishbofin, in Co Galway this week.
