Gardaí in Galway have appealed to a motorist who left the scene of a fatal collision in the county last night to come forward.

A woman in her 50s died after being struck by a vehicle in Na Forbacha (Furbo) last evening.

It is now believed that she was knocked into a verge at the side of the R336, just after 6:30pm.

The route would have been quite busy at the time with commuters travelling to and from Connemara between Bearna and An Spideál.

Gardaí in Salthill, Galway are keen to hear from any motorists who were travelling on the road between 6:30pm and 7:30pm last night, who may have information about the incident.

They are also appealing for any dash cam or camera footage that may assist the investigation.

It’s understood the woman was from Co Galway.

She was found by a passer-by shortly after 7pm and taken to University Hospital Galway where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
