A US firm that provides communication software to hundreds of international companies is to create 200 jobs in Galway

Diligent Corporation specialises in secure, end-to-end, corporate governance software.

It has around 19,000 client companies around the world, providing specialised applications that allow board members to communicate securely.

The company's CEO says that the offering is more relevant than ever, given the growth in virtual meetings in the months since the Covid-19 pandemic took hold.

Brian Stafford said the cloud delivered technology was in demand from a range of sectors.

It allows companies to securely transfer documentation and other material to board members for their consideration.

Much of this information would be highly sensitive and, in many instances, would have previously been dispatched to third party email addresses.

The software also enables secure voting, minute taking, messaging and the transfer of other data.

Mr Stafford said Galway was chosen as a location for the company’s new European hub for a number of reasons.

Among them, a skilled pool of third-level graduates, a multi-cultural and multi-lingual workforce, as well as the city’s location in allowing for time-zone flexibility.

This means staff in Galway will be able to respond to the needs of both the US and European markets.

The 200 jobs will be filled in the coming months.

At first, staff will work remotely, but Mr Stafford said he hoped that by September 2021 all the company’s employees would be back in an office environment.

He said it was a strategic necessity for Diligent to open a new hub for the European market at this time, and although the pandemic made things more complex, the challenges were manageable.

The company has told employees around the US it is not anticipated they will return to their offices to work, until the latter part of 2021.

The investment by Diligent in Galway is backed by the IDA.

The agency's CEO Martin Shanahan said the decision to locate in Ireland was a vote of confidence in the country's "agile and adaptable business environment", at a time of unprecedented global flux.
