Up to 1,500 people have gathered in Strokestown, Co Roscommon calling for an end to forced evictions.

The protest follows violent clashes last week after a family was evicted from their farm on the outskirts of Strokestown.

Two men were arrested as part of the garda investigation into alleged criminal damage and assault.

The men were later released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Meanwhile, the Financial Services Union is seeking an urgent meeting with KBC management to discuss staff security measures following a number of suspected arson attacks on KBC banks.

The Union also wants to discuss the bank's handling of arrears cases in light of the recent eviction of a family in Strokestown.
