Two men have died after the car they were travelling in hit a tree near Ballina, Co Mayo late last night.
They have been named locally as 28-year-old Ricky Langdon, from Ballina, and 21-year-old, Jack O'Hora, from Castleconnor, Co Sligo.
Gardaí say the the third occupant of the car, a 29-year-old from Ballina, remains in a critical condition in hospital this evening.
The single-vehicle crash happened on the Killala Road, outside Ballina, shortly after 11pm, when the Audi car in which the three men were travelling, left the road and hit a tree.
These latest fatalities brings to 129 people killed on Irish roads so far this year.
The road was closed for a time for a technical examination but has since reopened.
Gardaí are appealing to the drivers of any vehicles that may have passed through the townland of Kilmoremoy close to the Costcutter Supermarket, between 10.20pm and 11.15pm last night, and who may have dash-cam footage, to contact Ballina Garda Station on 096-20560 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
