A man has been arrested after being stopped by gardaí when driving a lorry while 11 times over the drink-driving limit.

The man was stopped driving on the wrong side of the road at Cloontuskert, Co Roscommon at 3.10pm yesterday.

Gardaí say when the lorry stopped they discovered the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and had an open bottle of wine beside him.

The man in his late 50s was taken to Roscommon Garda Station.

He was found to have 106 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

The legal limit for professional drivers is 9 microgrammes per 100ml of breath, or 20 milligrams per 100ml of blood.

The man has been charged and will appear before Roscommon District Court in September.
