IRC expresses sympathy over death of transgender woman in Direct Provision

A post-mortem examination is to take place following the death of a transgender woman living in a Direct Provision Centre in Galway.

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice and Equality said it is understood the woman fell ill at the centre. 

The Irish Refugee Council has expressed its sympathies and has offered support to anyone affected by what it described as this tragic loss.
