New mayor elected in Galway

Labour Councilor Niall McNeilis has been elected as Mayor of Galway.

He succeeds Fine Gael's Pearse Flannery.

The Knocknacarra-based councillor was elected as part of a voting pact between Fine Gael, the Labour Party and a number of independents.
