Four marts in counties Leitrim, Sligo and Mayo will remain closed this week following an accident in which a customer was injured at a mart in Mohill, Co Leitrim on Saturday.

It is understood the accident in which the man was injured involved a bull at the mart run by the co-op, Aurivo.

The man was airlifted to Sligo University Hospital where his condition is being monitored, according to Aurivo, which says it is "offering their full support to the gentleman and his family."

In a statement issued today, Aurivo said that management and staff will also be co-operating with the relevant authorities as an investigation is conducted into the accident.

It was decided today that Aurivo's four livestock marts will remain closed this week following the Mohill accident.

Apologising for any inconvenience caused to its customers, Aurivo said: "The decision taken by management is prudent as the health and safety of our customers, members and employees is of paramount importance."

The marts affected are: Ballymote Livestock Mart, Co Sligo, Mohill Livestock Mart, Co Leitrim, and Ballinrobe and Balla Livestock Marts, Co Mayo.
