One of Ireland's biggest Irish language national schools has opened in Galway.
Pupils at Gaelscoil Mhic Ahmlaigh started the new term in a new premises on the west side of the city.
The school was established in 1993 with just 20 pupils. Since then it has expanded significantly and the new school can accommodate 720 pupils.
The building on Millars Lane in Knocknacarra has 24 classrooms, offices, support rooms and sports facilities.
Until Christmas, Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh was located in a housing estate a short distance from the new location.
The majority of pupils were taught in Portacabins, which had to be added to cater for increased numbers over the last 25 years.
There were significant delays along the Western Distributor Road in Galway this morning, due to the volume of traffic travelling to schools close to the Gaelscoil.
There are now four national schools in the Knocknacarra area, each within a 500m radius of each other.
