A man in his 50s has drowned while swimming in Co Mayo this evening.
The man was taken from the sea at Westport Quay shortly after seven o'clock.
He had been swimming with a number of other people at a location known as 'The Point' when he got into difficulty.
Efforts were made to revive him when he was taken from the water but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has been taken to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar where a post-mortem examination will be carried out over the weekend.
