Electricity supply has been fully restored to houses in parts of south Connemara and the Aran Islands after gorse fires damaged an ESB substation 20 miles west of Galway city late last night.
The fires, which raged in the Casla-Ros a Mhíl area of Co Galway throughout the night, forced some people out of their houses for a period.
Fire brigade units were called from Clifden and Galway to assist the local unit from An Cheathrú Rua in fighting the blaze.
No one was injured as a result of the blaze, but it has caused considerable damage to flora and wildlife in the surrounding areas.
Gardaí and the ESB are carrying out separate investigations into the fires.
