Who will the people of Galway West and Dublin Central be sending to Dáil Éireann? When will we know the result?
Yesterday, constituents cast their ballots at polling booths in local schools and halls - to pick their preferred candidate to fill the seats vacated by President Catherine Connolly and former minister for finance Paschal Donohoe.
Today, the count begins.
Even though voting took place in just two constituencies, the results will still take time to filter through over the coming hours - and maybe days! Turnout, of course, is a factor too with lower numbers traditionally turning out for such votes.
Boxes from 21 polling stations in Dublin Central have been transported to the RDS for counting, with 196 boxes of votes also waiting to be counted in Salthill.
Five boxes were ferried to the mainland from Inishbofin, Inis Mór, Inis Meáin and Inis Oírr last night as part of the first bye-election where those on the islands voted in tandem with the mainland.
At 9am, those boxes will be opened, and tallies will follow.
The first count, perhaps due in the afternoon, will give us an idea of how things are shaping up, but that can change throughout the weekend, where transfers could prove critical if margins are thin.
Dublin Central may produce a result sometime this evening but count staff in Galway are potentially in for the long haul – where a result might not come until tomorrow evening or even later.
