US software firm Salesforce is planning job cuts at its Irish operation.

It is not yet known how many roles will be impacted but the Department of Enterprise said it received a collective redundancy notification from the company yesterday.

Such notifications are required to be issued when 30 or more redundancies are planned.

The company employs more than 2,500 people in Ireland.

Salesforce did not confirm the number of Irish-based job cuts.

"We continuously assess our structure and rebalance as needed to best serve our customers and fuel growth areas," a spokesperson told RTE News.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff recently said that the company has cut 4,000 of its customer support roles globally.

"I've reduced it from 9,000 heads to about 5,000, because I need less heads," Mr Benioff said while discussing the impact of AI on Salesforce operations on the Logan Bartlett Show podcast.

In February this year it was announced that around 50 jobs were to be cut at the Irish operation of Salesforce.

In February 2023, the company cut around 200 jobs in Ireland as part of global layoffs.
