Ryanair has reported a 2% increase in passenger numbers for August to reach a new record high for the month.

The airline said it flew a total of 21 million passengers last month, an increase of 500,000 on the 20.5 million it flew the same time last year.

It operated over 114,000 flights in August.

The airline said its load factor - how many seats it fills on each flight - in August was changed at 96% from the same month last year.

Ryanair said its passenger numbers in the 12 months to the end of August grew by 6% to 203.6 million.

The low-cost carrier last year set an all-time record by carrying a total of 197.2 million passengers, up 8% compared to 181.8 million in 2023.

Shares in the company moved lower in Dublin trade today.
