New research has found that 80% of insurers are now exploring or deploying AI solutions, while over 75% of insurtech companies have already integrated AI into live products.
The study is from InsTech.ie, a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2021 to promote greater innovation across the insurance sector.
The InsTech.ie 2025 AI in Insurance Report was compiled through a combination of industry and consumer surveys, contributions from practitioners, and real-world case studies.
It found that 90% of firms surveyed are planning international expansion.
The report highlights AI deployment across key insurance functions, including customer experience, risk modelling, real-time claims processing, and compliance automation.
"Ireland has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lead globally in AI-driven insurance," said InsTech.ie CEO Gary Leyden.
"We host all of the world's top 10 software companies, 11 of the top 15 global insurers, and now 114 homegrown insurtechs, as mapped by InsTech.ie," Mr Leyden said.
Barry Scannell, Partner at William Fry and a specialist in artificial intelligence, copyright, IP, and technology law, said that as insurers increasingly integrate AI into their operations, regulatory scrutiny intensifies, especially in Europe.
"The EU’s forthcoming AI Act and the already-implemented Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) will significantly shape how insurers adopt AI technologies particularly in relation to risk management, accountability, cybersecurity, and data governance," Mr Scannell said.
