Broadband subscriptions up, phone calls down - ComReg

Fixed broadband subscriber lines increased to 1.62 million in the first quarter of the year according to figures from the Commission for Communications Regulation, ComReg.

It represents a 0.4% increase compared to the previous quarter and is up 1.9% on an annual basis.

ComReg said that for the first time, fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) is now the most commonly purchased broadband technology in Ireland.

Data usage is also on the rise with the average fixed residential broadband subscriber line using 401.1 GB of data, an increase of 9.4% since last year.

When it comes to mobile phone usage, the figures show that a monthly basis an average mobile voice subscriber used 185 minutes, which is a 9.3% decrease on last year.

The average user sent 36 texts, which is down 10%, and used 15.7GB of data, an annual increase of 18.6%.
