Gerry Light is to step down as the General Secretary of the Mandate trade union.
The union said Mr Light was leaving the role for personal reasons after nearly 30 years service.
Mandate said it will now begin the process of recruiting a new General Secretary and that members of the union have been briefed on Mr Light’s decision.
Mr Light has been General Secretary since 2020 and has worked in the union in various roles since its foundation in 1994, out of the merger of IDATU and INUVGATA.
Previously, he worked for INUVGATA and was part of the team that negotiated the merger of the two unions.
Mandate President, Denise Curran, thanked Mr Light for his leadership.
"Gerry Light’s contribution to Mandate and the wider trade union movement has been outstanding and his presence in the union will be greatly missed by us all," Ms Curran said.
"However, Gerry has decided that the time has come to put his family first and we fully respect and honour his decision in this regard."
"We are glad that he has agreed to stay on as General Secretary until his successor takes up office," she added.
